For me the trailer basically goes like this...

1. awesome, because robert downey jr. is awesome
2. boring, because superhero origins in movies should be 5-10 minute flashbacks and this one looks to be anywhere from a half hour to an hour
3. HEH, "Iron Man"
4. ambivalent, because that suit looks so sick I don't know what to think yet.

1. Robert Downey Jr. is awesome.
2. Superhero origins don't have to be boring, just look at Batman Begins.
3. Iron Man may not be the top tier Marvel hero but he's damn cool.
4. I love the suit, both the cobbled together one and the slick final product look great.

I'm pretty much with Movie Mike on this one-but I would say also, if you have to have a hero origin story, Tony Stark's is a pretty good one-hell, you could easily make an exciting movie out of just the situation of "genius arms developer gets wounded an captured by people who want him to make them a weapon, he does make them a weapon but turns the tables on them and uses it to defeat them". Obviously it would be nice to do more than that with an established character, but as origins go it could make for one heck of a flick.

If you're responding to tablesaw's number 3, I'm pretty sure he's referring to the song they play in the trailer.

I think the ComicCon trailer showed a little more, but I don't know if that's still up anywhere.

The movie looks excellent. I can't wait.

I love, love, love, love the look of the hulking, scrap-metal suit. It has an air of menace and mechano-thuggery to it that I adore. It LOOKS like a robot suit that could beat the crap out of you, and wants to.

Too juiced for words about this movie. Saw the trailer during The Daily Show last night and it looks fantastic.

Personally, I adore the neologism "mechano-thuggery." Thanks, Telstar!

Yeah, the ComiCon trailer had the explanation about the device on Stark's chest keeping him alive. But I think we get a bit more footage of the mechano-thug suit.

It almost certainly exists as a bitTorrent somewhere, but I don't want to slow my pr0n downloads.

I tend to agree that Iron Man's is one of the more interesting origins, if only because it was written back when Marvel was hugely into Commie-baiting and then abruptly found themselves on the wrong side of that particular cultural divide. I like that they shifted the perspective to turn it into the story of a warmongering death merchant who grows a conscience; this makes it close to Spiderman's origin, which is probably the best out there.

By the way, I think we just happen to be getting a lot of the origin in the trailer, and that most of it is set back home in America. I'm guessing the origin is the first act. But if nothing else, it's fairly elaborate and needs more than ten minutes of screentime.

You know an origin story I would've loved to skip right through?

The Fantastic Four.

But then the movie would've only been 15 minutes long.
