I still stand that The Relic is a really good monster flick. Mimic too, even though it's far from del Toro's best.

Not seen it, but the Russian Surf guitar group The Red Elvisis did the sound track, and it's killer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d50dO4BsmxMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpLKc5c0xLc

 Re: Movies of the 90s
I was underwhelmed by Six String Samurai, but then again, I already had a notion/set of expectations of what the movie should be before I saw it. Try and forget the high concept before you watch it - and gird yourself for an obnoxious kid character - and you will probably be glad you saw it. That same strategy helped me love Bubba Ho Tep as less a high concept idea about an Elvis/JFK team up against a mummy and more a melancholy reflection on mortality and regret.

 Re: Movies of the 90s
From a fight perspective, both the director of Six-String Samurai and lead actor (and Hong Kong film veteran) Jeffrey Falcon do a far better job than most Hollywood films do, even those starring the likes of Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

Yes. (Which is not to say that the concept isn't better than the actual film-- just that the gulf between the two isn't nearly as wide as you seem to fear.)

 Re: Movies of the 90s
The concept draws me to it, and the review give me more reason to. The music is, as I said, killer and that's the clincher for me.

I concur with El Santo, and would say that it's well worth a look.

I'm in the same boat as you, BJ. Expectations set too high, and that kid.... THAT KID! To much to overcome, sadly...

I'll add my voice to the dissent.
Also, I know I may be alone on this, but I enjoyed The Dead Hate the Living.

 Re: Movies of the 90s
about 6-string Samurai....
I would encourage you to watch it, but keep the expectations low. The script could have gone through the editing process a few more times, but for an indie effort; it has a lot of promise.
the filmamkers desires were well beyond his budget/capabilities; and it shows.

 Re: Movies of the 90s
Not quite alone. I'm sure it benefitted from being made in 1999 (when there hadn't been a non-parodic zombie movie not made in some headbanger's backyard released in this country for about six or seven years) rather than 2009 (when even many die-hard zombie fans were starting to wish somebody would shoot the whole genre in the head), but found The Dead Hate the Living at least moderately impressive.

 Re: Movies of the 90s
I remember Dr. Freex giving it a relatively positive review as well. How did this thing escape the academy's attention?
