Post Just A Question, Guys...
I have a co-worker who insists she has seen a very little-known version of Red Dragon, made ages ago and she knows not the year, with all unknown actors. It has the same name as the novel but I cannot find it on IMDb. Does anyone know a name or source for this movie, or if she is on major drugs?

There's a German/Italian co-production from 1965 called A 009 missione Hong Kong released Stateside as Red Dragon. It stars Stewart Granger. I don't know if that's it, but hey!

According to Wikipedia, the only adaptations were Manhunter in '81 and Red Dragon in '02.

My guess is it's the Michael Mann-directed Manhunter, which was shown on TV more than once with a different title to capitalize on whatever Hannibal Lecter movie was in theaters at the time.

The original working title of Mann's Manhunter was Red Dragon, but studio heads thought that people would see the title as some kind of sword and sorcery thing.

Not a bad assumption on the marketer's part, really, given that was a time when there were a number of sword and sorcery movies being made.

Red Dragon: The Curse of Hannibal Lecter, if the IMDb is to be believed.

My memory must be playing tricks on me--I thought it got shown twice, once as Red Dragon and once as The Curse of Hannibal Lector. But they just glued those titles together in one ungainly heffalump instead.

:? I thought Manhunter came out well after 1981. More like 1986, I think. I remember going to see it in a theater and generally liking it, though it did not quite do justice to the Thomas Harris book (which I had read and thought very highly of).

I remember thinking it was kind of like Miami Vice in style, which is not surprising since Michael Mann was behind them both. But Miami Vice first aired in (I think) late-1984, so Manhunter must have been a little later than that.

You're right. I have a copy of the DVD and the copyright says 1986.

That's what I mean. I saw it, my sister saw it, my brother and his best friend saw it...but it seems not to exist, regardless.
