I did a lot of splurging in the HMV 20% off sale. The Descent 1 & 2, the Scorpion King trilogy, Black Death, Doomsday and War of the Arrows all on blu-ray. And the awesomeness that is Mike picked me up Canada exclusive steelbooks of John Carter and, um, Ghost Rider 2...

It's possible I need to be restrained. Saw an Amazon seller had a used copy of the DVD of Crocodile (1981), the terrible Jaws rip-off that's been eluding me for years now, for $7.18 that qualified for free shipping. So I just tossed in the Blu-rays of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and Trolhunter.

I suspect this will not be my last splurge.

EDIT: And I would be right, because I discovered that there is a Blu-ray edition of Little Shop of Horrors that features a Director's Cut coming out on October 9th. Seeing as how I've been waiting for just such a thing for years, I had to pre-order it.

Which would that be? (Book, movie, both.)

Just noticed I never responded to this on page 1, sorry Santo. The movie was the 70s Tyburn horror Legend of the Werewolf and I discuss both here.

SSW and I are renting a house. The good news: it's in the Napa Valley, the wine country! Right near an excellent wetlands preserve loaded with birds. The bad news is, we're moving for the sake of a job that may not last all that long. They've made it clear that they love my work and want me to stay for years, not months... and yet they won't even consider offering me permanent status. Sometimes in a recession, when The Man hands you a cowpie and a spoon, you just have to go "my compliments to the chef."

(The other day my boss actually told me that my code needed to be made less clever so that future programmers could maintain it easier. Even though dumbing it down will make it longer, more complicated, more entangled in low-level detail, and slower, thereby increasing the likelihood of needing to change it.)

Sold $10 worth of DVDs at Half Price Books today, used that to pick up A Century of Stop-Motion Animation: From Melies to Aardman by Ray Harryhausen and Tony Dalton. I admit it bought it mainly for the pictures.

Turns out you can add people to your Amazon Prime account. My mother added me to hers, so not only did I go ahead and switch all my pre-orders and un-shipped items to the free 2-day shipping--I went ahead and ordered The Calamari Wrestler on DVD for $5.19. It's worth buying for The Squilla Boxer alone.

Best Buy had them for a fiver apiece, so I now have Kill Bill parts 1 and 2 on DVD, along with Superman Returns and the Beastie Boys' License to Ill.

I Walked With A Zombie / The Body Snatcher

That double feature is TOTALLY worth it. Especially Karloff's performance in The Body Snatcher. If there had not been a Robert Mitchum, Karloff should have played Cady in Cape Fear.

Blurays:

Picked up season one of Wilfred. The goofy premise piqued my interest.

Got Commando for $2 bucks and The Cannonball Run for $5 bucks.

Did...did my post somehow get edited by somebody else or have I suddenly developed an alter ego that rewrites things when I'm sleeping?

Oops. I'm afraid I am the culprit here. Instead of hitting the quote button, I hit the edit button. This in no way diminishes Karloff's performance, however.
