Post Carnosaur: the Book
I have never read this one. I figure that any book about genetically-enhanced killer dinochickens can't be TOO bad, but has anyone read it? Your thoughts?

I have read it. It is about a hundred times better than the movie and a lot of fun in a pulpy sort of way. I found the movie tie-in edition at a Half Price Books so it's not impossible to find.

I have a strange fondness for that movie. Still, if the book's better, I should check it out.

Awesome! I'm on it. "A hundred times better than the movie" is sort of damning the book with faint praise, but...

Hey now, I love that movie. But yeah, the book is better because books don't have budgets so there are tons of dinosaurs. Also the first graphic sex scene I ever read, which rather shocked my 10-or-so year old brain. Trashy fun. Harry Adam Knight also apparently wrote the novel Proteus is based on.

And he wrote what I remember being an enormously entertaining novel called Fungus, which is about exactly that title implies.

It's not about carnivorous mushrooms from outer space, is it? If so I've once again been beaten to an idea I've had since childhood.

I don't recall whether or not they were from space, but yes. Carnivorous mushrooms it is.

I am happy to report that not only are there 28 copies in the Michigan library system, but when I requested an inter-library loan, I got the copy from the library at Bad Axe, Michigan.

So now I feel like a bad-axe killer fungus chickypoo. Wait, am I turning into Portrait in Flesh?

OK, I read it -- with GREAT pleasure -- and I have to relate that the mushrooms were not from outer space. They were from Your Town. And they were on steroids.

So the space angle is still wide open, my friend.
