 Damn, it's a real D.A.M. DVD!!
"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: destroy monsters dvd all." (Gotta love this place) I got tired of manually searching topics (too. much. Internet.) so my apologies (again) if someone had already linked to this (Oh YES) weeks or more ago.

Huh. I always got the impression that it was universally considered an enormous disappointment, and a borderline waste of a terrific idea. Still, I'm very excited about this, because Destroy All Monsters is the only Showa Godzilla movie that I've never seen in its entirety. Also, one simply has to love this: "renowned Godzilla [scholar]... Ed Godziszewski." Sometimes nomenclature really is destiny.

I myself loved the movie when I was 10, but mostly because of the weird "how we keep all the monsters on an island" beginning that plays out as if Disney was making classroom nature films about Godzilla. Haven't seen it as an adult, and I'm a little trepidatious of doing so.

 Re: Damn, it's a real D.A.M. DVD!!
DAMM suffers from a tragically uninteresting human story and massive debits for the prolonged laser cutting scene intended to be highly suspenseful, but is simply irritating and tedious, despite Ikefube's driving soundtrack. Aside from using the various monsters to hold Earth hostage in the movie's opening minutes, the bulk of the movie's action is used up with a science fiction story that is essentially a sequel to either the camo-cockroach aliens or the camo-gorilla aliens. (I cannot recall which, though I am pretty sure its the cockroaches. The gorillas are from G vs Gigan, I think.) All tediousness and boredom, though, is washed away in grand style in the last fifteen or twenty minutes when the movie finally gets to the frocking monsters. It turns into an all-out Toho monster battle complete with sports announcer setting the scene and introducing the contestants. And Ghidora makes a spectacular entrance. The movie is an overall disappointment, but the grandiose spectacle (by Showa-era standards) of the entire roster of Toho monsters on screen in brand new footage ranks right up there with the best that the Showa era ever produced.

Believe it or not, it has to be neither. Cockroach aliens are Godzilla vs. Gigan, gorilla aliens are Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster; both were made years after Destroy All Monsters. The only Godzilla movie with that kind of alien invasion plot that predates Destroy All Monsters is Godzilla vs. Monster Zero.

No, I believe it. Last night, it dawned on me that I was confusing the alien invasion plot of DAM from the much better Terror of Mechagodzilla. The DAM plot is still an attempted hostile alien takeover, but it involves an alien menace several measures less cool than either the gorillas or cockroaches. The aliens do live in a subterannean cavern beneath Japan and there is a scene where a Japanese interstellar super-spaceship chases after a porcelain UFO on the moon.

As compared to the ceramic ceiling light covers the planet X folks used in GODZILLA VS. MONSTER ZERO.
DAM is okay to me. I found the idea of keeping the monsters trapped on the island a farce though- If they can zap the wee beasties enough to corral them, why don't they do all that stuff when the monsters escape? If one of us ever writes it as a novel, please give us a good rationalisation. Skip Peel in his fan fic in G-FAN tried, and he's a good writer, but I still have to know 'why.'

 Re: Damn, it's a real D.A.M. DVD!!
How can hot Japanese women in hooded sparkly silver jumpsuits be less cool than giant cockroaches or green-faced gorillas?! Are you mad, sir? I do love the Black Hole gorillas, I have to admit. DAM...I recall it being a bit of a disappointment when I FINALLY saw it, for the reasons already described. The climax is pretty keen, though, even if it makes me sad for King Ghidorah, getting punked by frickin' Minya at the end there... -------------------- It's still better than most of the Millennium series, though.

Yeah, after three monsters woose slapped him (Them?), you'd think he'd tell the alien gals "Um...Sorry, I have a planet ravaging on my to do list, so I can't make it. Have you called Nebula Hunter M-9?"
Of course, he may have needed the work real bad. Kinda like Tom Bosley doing infomercials...
