I know we say stuff like, "The comedy movie business has now officially hit rock bottom" a lot, but I don't think I've evert been as angry at Hollywood for out-and-out low-down laziness as I was after seeing the trailer for The Comebacks. It's supposed to be a parody of underdog sports movies that, get ready for it, parodies Dodgeball. Specifically, in the trailer, they redo the "if you can dodge a wrench" scene, and, well, see it for yourself, then ponder the cruelty of this universe.

Seriously, even Epic Movie's "parody" of Borat wasn't this wrong-headed.

So, basically, it's the Sh! The Octopus of sports movies, then? Yes, I'd say that's exactly what was most sorely missing from the world.

I'm not really fearing anything unless for some weird reason I end up being forced at gunpoint to see a movie I don't want to.

Or that snippet that ran for a few minutes before breaking at B-Fest that was the low-rent version of Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy...The Very Sexy Mummy.

Even if it weren't the first film referenced, The Comebacks would have this spot for the wasting of David Koechner, a man who has proven his skill in films like Thank You For Smoking, Snakes on a Plane, and the deserving of its status neo-classic Anchorman, not to mention his recurring role on The Office. (Which has another, far more frequent recurring cast member, Melora Hardin, also trapped here. This is criminal given her arc at season's end.) Then they riff on a film which actually succeeded as a spoof of underdog films, the funny as hell Dodgeball. That had a great cast. Stephen Root had actual dialogue.

I am incredibly narked by Balls of Fury. Normally I would ignore such utter garbage, but the presence of Maggie Q looking so edible means one day, I'm going to have to wach the thing

Southland Tales and Across the Universe, both of which were in my "most anticipated" thread. And I *am* going to see them. But there seems to be the potential for complete and utter horror in both those flicks, based on the early buzz and the pompousness of their respective directors. Hence, I dread as much as I hope.

Well, if some people consider Scream a parody of slasher films, you could look at the first Scary Movie.

That Jodie Foster-remake of Death Wish. Man, that looks dreadful. Charlie Bronson you are not, Jodie Foster with butch haircut.

The fact that they also rip off Monty Python while doing so is the rat poison frosting on the arsenic cake.
