So they're going coach on the advertising?

Oh yeah, this is going to go well. I'm sure Postal and In the Name of the King will be getting the treatment they deserve.

Laugh all you want but I've seen ads all over TV and they're getting it into 1500-2000 screens. That's more than the American release of The Host got (sadly). They're also not screening it ahead of time for critics and it should be fascinating to see what kind of business it does this weekend. Curious to see if it does better than Godzilla 2000 did or if it mega-tanks and pulls in BloodRayne/Skinwalkers numbers.

Just think; this weekend we're going to see Dragon Wars on the big screen preceded by a brand new trailer (reportedly) for Boll's Dungeon Siege. I think we're all in for a glorious trainwreck at the movies this weekend. Mark your calendars... B-Fest's comin' a few months early!

Yeah, I mean, even my local theater's getting it, along with Mr. Woodcock and The Brave One. I really hope Jodie Foster's movie holds up, because I don't have faith for the other two.

A theater nearby is getting The Kingdom sneak on Sat. so I may accidentally see a potentially good film.

Seriously, why was The Host mishandled. Haven't seen it but Americans love giant monster movies. As for Dragon flick, the SBM (Sassy Black Man) in it is on The Office. Other than that, nothing to note it looks like.

No they don't, really. And apparently, the giant monster genre holds no interest for folks in Japan, either, considering how Final Wars and the made-for-kids Gamera movie both tanked at the Japanese box office - neither had much of a US release.

People are kind of stoked for "Cloverfield," but I'm not sure how much of that is overrated internet phenomena, which has proven to be some kind of hallucinatory form of fairy dust for movie marketers hoping to generate positive buzz and boffo box office numbers. Like Snakes on a Plane, that stuff doesn't seem to pan out much.

I suspect Jodie Foster will do pretty good, I pray Eastern Promises does very well, and Dragon Wars will barely break top ten.

Well, maybe I can get to see this this weekend, but I think I will fail in that endeavor. And next week is all booked up already too. Damn it!

Well we should...

As for internet buzz, I give up, SOAP and Grindhouse failed commercially (not artistically) yet 300 rode that buzz to the top.

Believe me, "internet buzz" is not what made 300 a box office success.

Or Seinfelds "B-movie" either.

Hardly hurt it though. Certainly helped fuel it. After all, films like it have had an uphill battle recently.

Though for the others, it's obvious: make a film for a niche audience, expect same.

I think the Internet buzz helps little genre movies actually get a decent theatrical run, like Pitch Black. The bigger budgeted movies? Not so much, because they have much more financial ground to cover.

Saw it earlier today and I must say that while parts of it are worse than even the worst Uwe Boll movie, the dialogue is terrible, and the acting is brutal (Jason Behr gives the worst performance of his or anyone else's career), the monster stuff delivers in ways that the Tri-Star Godzilla and Shim's previous Yonggary/Reptillian failed. Heck, I liked the downtown Los Angeles monster battle considerable more than I did the finale to Transformers, if only because I could actually make out what the heck was going on and it didn't go on for seemingly forever. All in all, a very mixed bag that brings to mind some of the 70's Godzilla movies with entertaining monster stuff, an incomprehensible plot, and acting so bad they'd have been better off being redubbed by different actors.

And yes indeed - there's a new trailer for Boll's IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON TALE. And you know what, it almost make it look halfway decent.

Oh yeah, and then I got home just in time to conduct a near hour-long phone interview with Uwe Boll himself for Dread Central. I'll let you know when it's posted.

Woo!

Don't know if I could spend an hour on the phone with Uwe Boll though.
